About
Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral and Cremation Service, located at W173 S7629 Westwood Drive in Muskego, Wisconsin, is a trusted, family-owned funeral home that has been serving the greater Milwaukee area with compassion and integrity since 1937. Founded by Max A. Sass and his wife Helen during the Great Depression, the business began as a true labor of love. Max worked the night shift as a foreman on the tractor line at Allis Chalmers Co. while simultaneously building his funeral home from the ground up. Helen managed the household and supported the business while raising their three children, Pat, Jim, and Judy. Through relentless dedication and community involvement, Max earned an excellent reputation and a growing client base.
The family remained at the heart of the operation throughout the decades. Max's son, Jim, joined the funeral home in 1960. Son-in-law Marv Kremski became part of the firm in 1967, followed by Don Edwards, who handled bookkeeping beginning in 1976. The next generation, including grandsons Steven Sass and Mike Kremski, started working in 1985 and 1988 respectively, ensuring the business stayed in family hands. Today, the funeral home continues to be family owned and operated, offering the same personalized care and attention to detail that has defined it for over 85 years.
In 1978, Max realized his dream of expanding when he opened the Greenridge Chapel in Greenfield on South 60th Street and West Layton Avenue. The Mission Hills Chapel followed in 1994, located in Franklin at 89th and Drexel near Loomis Road. In 1995, the company acquired an existing funeral home in Muskego and, after extensive renovations, opened the Westwood Chapel in March of that year. The Muskego location, known as the Westwood Chapel, is now one of five convenient locations serving families throughout the metro Milwaukee area and its suburbs. If none of the locations are convenient, the funeral home is happy to arrange custom services at a church or cemetery chapel.
The Muskego facility offers a full range of services including traditional burial and cremation options, on-site chapel facilities, and wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking. The professional staff are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist families during their time of need. Services include language assistance for non-English speakers, funeral celebrant services, and casket service. The funeral home’s commitment to flexibility and attention to detail ensures that every family receives a service that honors their loved one in a meaningful way.
With a 4.9-star rating from 49 reviews on Google, Max A. Sass & Sons is deeply respected in the Muskego community and beyond. The staff pride themselves on being available when needed most, and they work tirelessly to provide compassionate guidance through every step of the funeral planning process.
