The history of the funeral home is a testament to its deep roots in Jefferson County. It began when J.G. Fuchs started a furniture store and undertaking business in 1888. After his death in 1912, his son Adam G. Fuchs took over. In 1926, Oscar Hildebrandt purchased the business, followed by Harry Minshall in 1941. Minshall later sold the furniture store but retained the funeral home. In 1966, Bernellyn "Bernie" Olsen joined the firm, and in 1974 he and his wife Mona purchased the funeral home, renaming it Minshall-Olsen. In 1981, Bernie and Mona were honored as Jefferson Citizens of the Year. The Olsen family expanded by purchasing the Hickey-Kent Funeral Home in Whitewater in 1987, and the name was changed to Olsen Funeral Home. Bernie's sons James and David joined the family business. In 2017, David retired and sold the business to Jacob E. Gibson, resulting in the current name, Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home.
Today, the funeral home remains committed to the highest standards of service, integrity, and compassion. They offer online obituaries, a mailing list for notifications, and the ability to send flowers directly through their website. Their location in the heart of Jefferson provides a convenient and welcoming environment for families to gather and remember their loved ones.
