About
Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home, Inc. has been a cornerstone of the Danville, Virginia community since its founding on April 9, 1979. Established by John Fisher and Waverly Watkins, Sr., the funeral home was born from a dream that became reality when Metropolitan Life Insurance Company vacated its Wilson Street location in late 1977. After nearly a year of negotiations, the two visionaries opened their doors, and for over four decades, the business has been dedicated to serving families with compassion, dignity, and respect. Proudly identified as Black-owned, the funeral home honors the legacy of its founders, whose deep love and commitment continue to guide every aspect of service.
Over the years, Fisher & Watkins has grown and evolved to meet the needs of the community. In June 1994, major renovations expanded the chapel from a capacity of approximately 110 to about 450, ensuring ample space for gatherings. Two elegant visitation parlors were also added, offering a warm and peaceful setting for private family viewings, with no steps to impede accessibility. In March 2000, the business offices were renovated, including a new reception foyer, expanded administrative spaces, and updated conference and casket display rooms. In 2009, a state-of-the-art sound system with surround sound and a digital video device with widescreen access was installed to allow families to create deeply personal tributes. Throughout these improvements, the atmosphere has remained tasteful, comforting, and inclusive.
Located at 707 Wilson Street in Danville, Virginia, the funeral home offers a full range of services including burial and cremation, with an onsite chapel for services.
