Duncan Mortuary, Inc. is a family-owned and operated funeral home that has been respectfully serving families in Houston and the surrounding areas for over 50 years. Founded in 1954 by the late Bailey and Annie Lee Duncan, the mortuary began at its current location on North Wayside Drive. Before entering the funeral profession, the Duncans were entrepreneurs in the gas and grocery store business within the Settegast community. Bailey Duncan attended the Commonwealth School of Mortuary Science, and together they owned and operated funeral homes in Cleveland, Livingston, and Houston, Texas. After Bailey Duncan's passing in 1959, Annie Lee Duncan successfully ran the business for many years, becoming one of the first African American women in Texas to succeed in the funeral profession. She was a member of the Houston Funeral Directors and Morticians Association and was known for her generosity, often providing funerals for families in need. Upon her passing in February 2002, the legacy was continued by Mr. Jerry Allen and his dedicated staff, who are committed to upholding the high standards of service, integrity, and dignity first established by the Duncans.
