About
Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home & Crematory, a cherished Fort Worth institution, has been serving families with compassion and dignity since 1911. As one of the last remaining family-owned and operated funeral homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, it upholds a legacy built on trust, personalized care, and deep community roots. The journey began when Quincy Adams Harveson opened one of Fort Worth's first mortuaries at 105 South Jennings. He hired embalmer Samuel D. Sloan and acquired a horse-drawn wagon, performing their first burial service in January of that year. Harveson's daughter later married Grover Cleveland Cole, and together they formed Harveson and Cole. The funeral home grew through its relationships with local Masonic lodges and railroad brotherhoods, solidifying its reputation through the 1930s and 1940s. In 1948, Guy Thompson joined the firm and became vice president and general manager by 1957. That same year, the business moved to a historic home at 702 Eighth Avenue, originally built in 1888 for Fort Worth's first banking families. The Thompson family purchased the building and carefully preserved its architectural integrity, including the gracious entryway and carriage house. Over the next three decades, the funeral home expanded to occupy the entire block. In 1981, Guy and Kathleen Thompson bought the business, ensuring it remained family-owned. Today, it operates from its current location at 4350 River Oaks Boulevard, guided by the same values of excellence and respect instilled by its founders. The funeral home offers a comprehensive range of services, including traditional burial and cremation options. Families can pre-plan and pre-pay for services to ease future burdens. The facility is fully wheelchair accessible and includes on-site parking. Staff provide financial assistance guidance and treat each family with warmth and understanding. The team works to create personalized funeral experiences that honor the unique life of every loved one, from simple direct cremations to full funeral services with viewings in their chapel or at alternative venues. The mission is to support families through grief with compassion and professionalism, ensuring that every life is celebrated meaningfully. Thompson's Harveson & Cole remains a steadfast pillar in the community, dedicated to preserving a 100-plus-year tradition of exceptional care.
