Evans Mortuary, located at 805 North Gateway Avenue in Rockwood, Tennessee, has been a cornerstone of compassionate care in Roane County and the surrounding areas since its founding in 1976. Established by Thomas R. "Butch" Evans Jr., the funeral home was born from a deep-seated commitment to serving families during their most difficult moments. Butch Evans initially gained experience in the funeral industry while working at the Booth Funeral Home in Rockwood, where his interest in the profession was sparked. He pursued formal education at John A. Gupton College in Nashville, graduating in 1970, and later purchased the property on Gateway Avenue to build a small facility. He opened Evans Mortuary in November 1976, and over the years, he also served as the county coroner from 1974 to 1978 and operated a convalescent ambulance service until 1983. Through these efforts, the mortuary earned the trust of the community by consistently providing professional, caring, and quality service.

In December 2020, the business transitioned to the next generation when Butch Evans passed the leadership to his son, Thomas Aylor Evans. This change came after the unexpected passing of Hyda R. Evans, Butch's wife and co-owner, earlier that year. Aylor Evans grew up immersed in the funeral industry, having been around the business his entire life. He is a 2012 graduate of Rockwood High School, a 2013 graduate of Roane State Community College, a 2015 graduate of Tennessee Technological University, and a 2017 graduate of John A. Gupton College. He is dedicated to upholding the same traditions of excellence and professionalism instilled by his father, ensuring that the family legacy of compassionate service continues for years to come.
