The business traces its roots to 1929, when Ova North began operating North Funeral Home out of his residence in Ethridge, Tennessee, using a horse-drawn hearse to transport the deceased. In 1938, a modern facility was constructed on North Military Avenue in Lawrenceburg, marking the beginning of a long-standing commitment to the community.

The funeral home’s current identity emerged in 1953 when Oliver Neal and his wife Connie moved to Lawrenceburg to assist Ova North, who was facing health challenges. Oliver Neal became a part owner and manager, and in 1984, he purchased the business outright from the North family. Upon retirement, he passed the operation to his sons, Charles and Don Neal. After Don’s untimely passing, Charles and his wife Vickie assumed leadership, later joined by their son David Neal and son-in-law Darren McAfee. David Neal represents the third generation of family stewardship, ensuring that the values of respect and empathy continue to guide every interaction.

In 1998, the funeral home moved into a new, state-of-the-art facility to better serve families, and the name was officially changed from North Funeral Home to Neal Funeral Home. The staff includes four licensed embalmers, six licensed funeral directors, two pre-need counselors, and two secretaries, all dedicated to providing seamless support during difficult times. Neal Funeral Home offers a full range of services, including traditional funerals, cremation services, and memorial ceremonies.
