The rich history of Kiser-Rose Hill dates back to the mid-1800s, when Colonel J.J. Mitchell founded a furniture emporium on Depot Street that included an undertaking department. In 1869, his son J.J. Mitchell Jr. inherited the business, and young Clark M. Kiser joined as an apprentice. Kiser learned the art of embalming and conducting funerals, and in 1929 he purchased the undertaking department, establishing Kiser Funeral Home on South Main Street in the historic Brumley House.
