About

Schisler Funeral Home, located at 2119 Washington Avenue in Northampton, Pennsylvania, has been a cornerstone of compassionate care in the Lehigh Valley since 1929. As a family-owned and operated funeral home now in its fifth generation, Schisler Funeral Home is dedicated to providing individualized attention, meticulous detail, and quality service to families during their most difficult times. The business was founded on January 1, 1929, when funeral director Albert A. Schisler and his wife, Ruth Young, purchased the original building. Over the next few years, they transformed the property into one of the most attractive and functional funeral homes in the region, adding a Georgian front, a driveway and canopy, and a large addition. In 1944, Albert’s brother, Harold M. Schisler, and his wife, Dorothy Smith, took over the business. Harold expanded the facility in 1955 by purchasing the Odd Fellows building, razing it to create additional parking and updating the driveway to accommodate modern cars. Following Harold’s untimely death in 1973, his son Arthur Schisler—also a licensed funeral director—purchased the business and continued the legacy of improvement, adding spacious parking lots, redecorating interiors, and introducing counseling rooms and additional offices. Arthur also changed the traditional fleet from black to white vehicles.

Under Arthur’s leadership, the Schisler organization expanded to serve surrounding communities. In 1985, they affiliated with the Ralston J. Bartholomew Funeral Home in Nazareth, forming Bartholomew-Schisler Funeral Home Inc. In 1987, they affiliated with Charles H. Campton Funeral Home in Palmerton, and later added the Richard M. Miller Funeral Home in Lehighton. Today, the Schisler family operates four locations: Schisler in Northampton, Bartholomew-Schisler in Nazareth, Campton in Palmerton, and Miller in Lehighton. The organization was also a pioneer in cremation services, becoming the first and only funeral home in Carbon County to install and operate its own cremation facility, providing families with added peace of mind.

Currently, brothers Aaron and Harold Schisler—Arthur’s sons and the fourth generation—serve as active funeral directors. The funeral home offers a full range of services, including traditional funerals, cremation services, pre-planning, veterans’ services, and grief support. They are proud members of the Cremation Association of North America, National Funeral Directors Association, Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and other professional organizations. With a Google rating of 4.7 stars and a reputation for warmth and professionalism, Schisler Funeral Home remains committed to honoring each life with dignity and respect, serving families from Northampton, Nazareth, Palmerton, Lehighton, and the greater Lehigh Valley area.
