About
Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home, now part of the Meyers & Givnish Family Funeral Homes, has been a pillar of the Jenkintown community for over 120 years. Founded around 1900 by Joseph J. McGoldrick, the business began in rented rooms in the Foy Building on Old York Road. McGoldrick soon constructed the first purpose-built funeral home in the area at 713 West Avenue and Johnson Street. In 1926, the operation moved to Summit and Cedar Street. Following Joseph's death in 1933, his daughter Anne took over management, becoming a licensed funeral director in 1936—a testament to the family's pioneering spirit. Her brother, also named Joseph J. McGoldrick, joined in 1949, and together they moved the funeral home to its current location at 507 West Avenue in 1956. Joseph became sole proprietor upon his mother's death in 1959. In 1975, the founder's grandson, Thomas M. McGoldrick, joined the firm, eventually becoming sole proprietor in 2013. As Tom considered retirement, the Walter Meyers family of funeral directors was contacted. After careful deliberation to ensure the continuation of the McGoldrick legacy of service, Tom transferred the funeral home into the care of the Meyers family. Tom remains as supervisor during this transition, ensuring continuity and personalized attention for every family.
Today, the historic West Avenue location offers spacious viewing rooms and modern amenities, accommodating both large gatherings and intimate services. The facility features an on-site chapel and is fully wheelchair accessible with accessible parking. Comprehensive services include traditional funeral services, cremation services, and veterans services with personalized tribute videos.
