Originally established by Lawrence D. Sheets on Bridge Street in Bridgewater, the funeral home began its legacy of compassionate care. James R. “Jr.” Todd started working with Mr. Sheets in the mid-1930s and eventually became a partner, purchasing half of the business before acquiring the full operation in the 1940s, renaming it the J. R. Todd Funeral Home. In 1954, the funeral home relocated to its current location at the corner of Third Street and Iroquois Place in Beaver, a historic former residence of Robert and Vera Taylor Gailey. James M. “Jim” Todd joined his father full-time in 1972 and took over the business when health issues forced “Jr.” to retire, operating it as Todd Funeral Home, Inc. Jim faithfully served families for more than 50 years, upholding the high standards set by his father. In January 2023, Jim stepped back from daily operations, and David J. Gabauer and Lisa Lesinski-Gabauer acquired the business, seamlessly integrating it into the Gabauer family of funeral homes. The location now operates as Gabauer-Todd Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with Jim continuing to serve families alongside the Gabauer team.
