About
Bailey's Funeral Home, a family-owned and operated business with deep roots in the Harlem community, has been providing dignified and compassionate funeral services to New York City since 1931. Founded by G. L. Jones, who recognized a need for affordable funeral care, the funeral home originally opened at 455–457 Lenox Avenue (now Malcolm X Boulevard) and quickly became a beacon of hope for families in their time of need. After Mr. Jones passed, his son George Jones and cousin Edward Bailey took over, renaming the establishment Bailey's Funeral Home, Inc., a name that became synonymous with trusted service throughout Harlem and the five boroughs. In 1997, Edward Bailey retired, and George Jones called upon his cousin, Willie Benton Jr., to purchase and lead the funeral home. Mr. Benton, the current owner and licensed funeral director, brings over 51 years of experience in the funeral service profession. He began his career at age 12 working for Palmer Funeral Home in Sumter, South Carolina, learning from renowned directors Robert and Perry Palmer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Management from Howard University and graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Services and Education in 1975. Before acquiring Bailey's, Mr. Benton worked extensively as a licensed funeral director and embalmer at Gilmore Funeral Home and served as a trade embalmer for numerous funeral homes across New York City and beyond. Under his leadership, Bailey's Funeral Home continues the legacy of offering affordable, low-cost funeral services while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and care. The funeral home provides a full range of services, including traditional burials, cremation, memorial services, and pre-planning assistance. They also offer grief support resources, financial assistance, and specialized honors for veterans. The facility is wheelchair accessible and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring families can receive support whenever needed. With a stellar 4.9-star rating from over 130 reviews, Bailey's Funeral Home is widely respected for its unwavering commitment to serving families with compassion and respect. Located at 151 West 128th Street (with additional service capacity at 110 West 131st Street), the funeral home remains a cornerstone of the Harlem community, guiding generations through their most difficult moments with grace and professionalism.
