Doreen, a lifelong Camden resident and proud graduate of Camden High School Class of 1963, pursued higher education at Camden County College and Glassboro State College, earning degrees in education and social studies. Despite her academic achievements, her true calling was mortuary science. She attended the American Academy of McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York, graduating on September 7, 1973, and became board certified in mortuary science on December 23, 1974. Under the guidance of experienced funeral directors across the tri-state area, she completed her apprenticeship and honed her skills. In 1993, she opened Boyd's Funeral Home as the sole proprietor, a proud moment for her and her family. Doreen also made history as the first African-American female employed by the Camden County Coroner's Office as a medical examiner, and she served her community as a Camden City committeewoman. Her generosity extended to providing food baskets and toys during the holidays. Today, her legacy continues through the family's efforts to keep her dream alive.
