About
Duesman Funeral Chapel, located at 402 Main Street in Humphrey, Nebraska, is a trusted funeral home serving the communities of Humphrey, Lindsay, and the surrounding areas. With a history that dates back over a century, the chapel is part of the Gass Haney Funeral Homes family and is dedicated to providing dignified, professional, and personalized end-of-life services.
Founded by William Duesman, a German immigrant who arrived in the United States in 1871, the business began as a furniture store in St. Bernard, Nebraska. William later moved the store to downtown Humphrey after the railroad arrived. In 1903, he obtained his funeral director license and began offering undertaking services alongside his furniture business. Over the years, the Duesman family continued to operate the funeral home, passing it down through generations. The current funeral home building was constructed west of the furniture store in 1954. Paul Duesman and his wife Joan became sole proprietors in 1980, and the funeral home remained under their ownership until 2018, when it was purchased by Gary Sharman and Brad Ramaekers. An interior update of the main floor was completed at that time. Brad Ramaekers retired in 2021, but the funeral home continues to operate under the Gass Haney Funeral Homes name, maintaining its commitment to the community.
Duesman Funeral Chapel offers a comprehensive range of services to meet the needs of families during their time of loss. These include traditional full-service burial, full-service cremation, affordable burial options, and direct cremation. The funeral home also provides resources for preplanning funerals, allowing individuals to make arrangements in advance to ease the burden on their loved ones. Grief support resources are available to help families through the mourning process. Each service is personalized to reflect the unique life of the deceased, ensuring that memorials are meaningful and memorable. The facility is wheelchair accessible, with on-site parking available for the convenience of visitors.
The chapel is open seven days a week from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and can be reached by phone at (402) 923-1212. Recent obituaries and additional information are published on the official website, providing a resource for the community to stay informed and offer condolences.
