Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services, located at 213 West Mountain Street in downtown Kernersville, North Carolina, is a distinguished funeral home with a rich history and a steadfast commitment to compassionate care. The building itself, known as Plunket Place, is a historically significant structure completed between 1840 and 1848. It originally served as Kernersville's first schoolhouse, making it one of the oldest surviving non-residential buildings in the city. The property has housed a funeral home since 1930. After a period of vacancy beginning in 1990, Jack Pierce and Danny Jefferson acquired the building in 2004. They undertook an extensive structural restoration that preserved the historic Greek Revival/Colonial Revival exterior, including its symmetrical facade, large multi-pane windows, and covered front portico, while modernizing the interior with contemporary gathering spaces, a large chapel, reception parlor, and an on-site crematory.
