About
Carothers Funeral Home, located at 212 West Trade Street in Dallas, North Carolina, has been a cornerstone of the Gaston County community since its founding by Ervin S. Carothers in 1928. Originally established on Page Street in Gastonia, the business underwent several transformations, including a partnership with C.T. Settlemeyer to form Carothers and Settlemeyer Funeral Home, and later ownership by Ervin’s brothers, J.C. Carothers Sr. and E. Woodrow Carothers Sr. In 1954, Carothers became the first funeral home in the area to construct a building specifically designed for funeral services, located at 312 West 2nd Avenue, where it operated until 2014. Alongside its funeral services, the home operated a fleet of ambulances for the community until 1974, after which it focused solely on end-of-life care. That same year, Carothers purchased the Dallas Funeral Home, and in 1985, the Carothers-Williams Corporation was formed, adding Gaston Memorial Park and Hillcrest Gardens to its family of services.
Today, Carothers Funeral Home offers a full range of funeral and cremation services, including traditional funerals, celebration of life ceremonies, and customized memorial tributes. The facility features an onsite chapel, wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking, and free on-site parking. Families can choose from burial and cremation options, with prepayment plans available to help ease financial burdens. The experienced and compassionate staff, including certified celebrants, work closely with families to create meaningful services that reflect the personality and wishes of their loved ones. Pre-planning services are also available, allowing individuals to make arrangements in advance and lock in current pricing.
Community involvement is a key aspect of Carothers Funeral Home’s mission. The home hosts annual Memorial Day and Christmas services to help the community remember and heal. It also holds a Hero’s Luncheon each September to honor public servants, and offers complimentary memorial services for police, fire, and emergency personnel who die in the line of duty. Through the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veteran Burial Program, the home ensures that honorably discharged homeless veterans receive full military honors at national cemeteries. Carothers also participates in the Step Out Walk Against Diabetes and supports local civic clubs, churches, and community groups.
The funeral home is part of the Dignity Memorial network, providing a 100% service guarantee and 24/7 availability. With a sister location at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park, families can access a combined funeral home, cemetery, and catering facility in one convenient location. Whether serving immediate needs or helping families plan ahead, Carothers Funeral Home remains dedicated to honoring lives and supporting the Dallas community with dignity and respect.
