Landess, a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science and the first licensed embalmer in the region, the business began by acquiring the A. B. McBride Undertaking Company. Over the decades, it has evolved through a rich family legacy, with key figures such as Christine Landess Beall, who broke barriers as the first woman appointed to the Missouri State Board of Embalming and the first female President of District 11 of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association. Her partnership with Richard V. Beall expanded the firm to Malden in 1961, and in 1977, the modern Campbell facility—a spacious 10,600-square-foot building on three acres along Highway 53—opened its doors. Today, under the ownership of Brad James, who began his career under Christine’s mentorship in 1992 and purchased the business in 1995, Landess Funeral Home continues to honor a century-old tradition of dignified, reverent care.
