Frances made the trip from Kansas City to Boonville alone to inspect the facility, which required significant repairs and cleaning. The Thachers moved into an apartment on the second floor of the funeral home, living there until 1971, and committed themselves to serving the families of Boonville with dignity and compassion.

Thacher Funeral Home offers a full range of services, including traditional burial and cremation services, as well as preplanning options with payment plans available. Later, Berry Thacher partnered with Bill and Ruth to form a corporation that allowed for shared responsibilities and more balanced time off while continuing to serve the community. This partnership led to the creation of Thacher-Wood, Inc., which combined the resources of Thacher Funeral Home with those of William Wood Funeral Home. The collaboration ensured that families received uninterrupted, professional care while staff enjoyed a sustainable work-life balance.
