The history of Jones Funeral Home is one of growth, family, and community dedication. It began in 1977 when Janis and Jessie Jones Jr. partnered with Mildred and Hilliard Buckner to open Buckner-Jones Funeral Home in Franklin, Louisiana, after recognizing a need for additional funeral services in the area. A second location, Buckner-Jones Chapel, opened in 1979 in the Siracusa subdivision near Morgan City. That same year, the Joneses’ eldest son, Byron, joined the business. The Morgan City chapel moved in 1983 to its current address at 715 Sixth Street. In 1986, the Buckners sold their interest to the Jones family, who renamed the business Jones Funeral Home. Janis Jones retired from the St. Mary Parish school system in 1994 to become a licensed funeral director in 1997. The couple’s second son, André, joined in 2004 and became licensed in 2006. That year, the Franklin location was relocated to a larger 2,000-square-foot facility on Main Street, enabling larger services. In 2010, the funeral home expanded by acquiring Alex Lovette Funeral Services in Jeanerette, and a fourth location opened in Houma in 2013. Jessie Jones Jr. passed away in 2018 at age 83, but his legacy of service lives on. In 2023, all Jones Funeral Home locations became part of the Dignity Memorial network, connecting them to a nationwide family of funeral, cremation, and cemetery providers while maintaining their local identity and commitment to excellence.
Today, Jones Funeral Home blends traditional values with contemporary options, offering personalized funeral and cremation memorials that reflect each family’s cultural and spiritual preferences. For immediate needs, the team responds with urgency and compassion, handling all logistics, paperwork, and coordination with cemeteries, clergy, and vendors.
