About
Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home, located at 205 4th Street in Axtell, Kansas, is a cornerstone of the community with a rich history dating back to 1894. Originally established as the Axtell furniture and undertaking business, the funeral home has evolved through multiple ownership changes while maintaining a steadfast commitment to compassionate, personalized care. The business began with embalming performed in private homes and later in a furniture store basement, eventually moving to a converted private home in 1944 that still serves as the funeral home today. Notable owners include the Smith family, William Landreth and Arthur Thornburg, Roger and Lana Popkess, and, since July 2014, Cleve Walstrom and Dustin Zutterman of Kinsley Mortuary, Inc. Woody Walstrom, and in 2026 Woody sold his shares to Dustin Zutterman, ensuring continued local ownership and family operation. Today, Dustin Zutterman, alongside his daughter Mercedes Zutterman, leads the funeral home, carrying on a legacy of stewardship and community care.
