About

Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, INC, is a family-owned and operated funeral home deeply rooted in the Wabash County community for over 90 years. The Manchester Avenue Chapel, located at 1241 Manchester Ave. in Wabash, Indiana, is one of several locations serving families with compassionate, professional care. The business traces its origins to 1933, when Lloyd and Alma Grandstaff established their funeral home in Roann at the corner of Chippewa Road and Quincy Street. For more than 25 years, they provided area families with the highest quality service in a comfortable, family-oriented setting. Their son, Ken Grandstaff, became the second generation to carry on the tradition after graduating from mortuary school in 1961. In 1975, Ken and his wife, Kathie, were joined by Roann native Steve Hentgen. That same year, they expanded their commitment to funeral service by purchasing the Hoover-Miner Funeral Home from Jack Miner, which became the former Main Street Chapel in Wabash. In 1992, the partners acquired the Bender Chapel in North Manchester and the Garrett & Sloane Colonial Mortuary, which is now recognized as the Manchester Avenue Chapel. In 2009, Chad Maple—grandson of Lloyd and Alma Grandstaff and nephew of Ken and Kathie—became a partner, marking the third generation to continue the family tradition of serving friends and neighbors throughout Wabash County. Today, the firm is assisted by a caring, professional staff dedicated to the ideals of the funeral profession. Grandstaff-Hentgen offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to honor each unique life and legacy. These include traditional funeral services, cremation services, veterans services, and pet funeral services. The Manchester Avenue Chapel features an onsite chapel, wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking, and on-site parking for convenience. The business maintains a strong reputation, reflected in its 4.5-star rating on Google and positive reviews that consistently highlight the staff’s kindness, compassion, and attention to detail. Families describe the team as going above and beyond, treating them like family during their time of loss. Whether arranging a traditional funeral, a cremation, or a personalized memorial, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, INC, remains a trusted partner for families in Wabash and the surrounding communities, providing dignified and heartfelt care.
