Founded by Curt DeBaun Sr. and Myrtle DeBaun in Prairie Creek, Indiana, the business began humbly, even accepting chickens and pigs as payment during the Great Depression. Recognizing the growing needs of the community, the family purchased land in the south end of Terre Haute in 1985, leading to the construction of the Springhill Chapel, which opened in 1989. The facility was designed with a crematory, which was installed shortly after, making DeBaun a leading provider of cremation services in the area. In 1995, the family acquired New Harmony Cemetery, founded in 1812, located south of Prairieton on State Road 63, ensuring a quality cemetery option for southwestern Vigo County. A columbarium and cremation burial area were later added to accommodate families choosing cremation. Today, the fourth generation, Seth DeBaun, carries on the tradition, continuing a legacy of compassionate care that spans nearly a century.
