The firm was established by Lloyd and Alma Grandstaff at the corner of Chippewa Road and Quincy Street in Roann, where they personally provided compassionate care and high-quality service to area families for over 25 years. In 1961, their son, Ken Grandstaff, became the second generation to carry on the tradition after graduating from mortuary school. Ken and his wife, Kathie, expanded the business in 1975 by partnering with Roann native Steve Hentgen. That same year, they purchased the Hoover-Miner Funeral Home from Jack Miner, establishing a presence in Wabash with what became the Main Street Chapel. The firm continued to grow in 1992 with the acquisition of the Bender Chapel in North Manchester and the Garrett & Sloane Colonial Mortuary, now known as the Manchester Avenue Chapel. In 2009, Chad Maple—grandson of Lloyd and Alma and nephew to Ken and Kathie—joined as a partner, becoming the third generation to lead the firm. Today, Grandstaff-Hentgen operates multiple locations in Roann, Wabash, and North Manchester, each staffed by a caring, professional team dedicated to the ideals of funeral service.
