About

Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, now operating as the Lapel Chapel of Bozell Funeral Homes, has a rich history of serving the Lapel, Indiana community that dates back to 1887. The funeral establishment was originally founded by J. C. McCarty, who built a home and business room on the northwest corner of Main and 10th Street. His son, Rexford D. McCarty, later joined the firm, and it became known as McCarty & Son Funeral Home. In 1938, the business moved across the street to its current location at 1010 North Main Street, remodeling a home to create the town's first dedicated funeral home. Brothers J. Merwyn and Basil Fisher purchased the business in 1946, renaming it Fisher Brothers Funeral Home, and expanded the facility with additions in 1948. In 1984, Scott E. Hersberger acquired the firm and changed the name to Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in 1988. Under Scott's ownership, the property was further developed, including the construction of an office and showroom building in 1993 on adjacent land. In 2018, Scott partnered with lifelong friends, Funeral Director Todd Bozell and his son Noah, and in September 2019, he transferred ownership to the Bozell family as he moved toward retirement. Today, Bozell Funeral Homes continues the tradition of respectful, personalized service, ensuring that every funeral honors the unique life lived. The Lapel Chapel offers comprehensive funeral services, including burial services, an onsite chapel for ceremonies, and wheelchair-accessible facilities with accessible parking. The business is highly rated by the community, earning a 4.8-star rating from 29 reviews on Google Maps, reflecting its commitment to compassionate care and professional guidance. Bozell Funeral Homes also provides additional services such as pet services, pre-planning options, grief support resources, and online obituary subscriptions to keep families informed. The staff, consisting of Indiana licensed funeral directors, brings extensive experience and a dedication to serving families through life's most difficult moments. With a focus on storytelling and personalization, the funeral home uses modern technology and comfortable, spacious surroundings to accommodate gatherings of all sizes. The history of this establishment reflects a century-long dedication to the Lapel community, evolving from a small family business to a trusted provider under the Bozell name, while maintaining the legacy of respect and service established by its founders.
