LaHayne Funeral Home, located at 6955 Southeastern Avenue in Hammond, Indiana, has been a pillar of compassionate care for Northwest Indiana and Southeast Cook County, Illinois, since its founding in 1935. Originally established as Snyder Funeral Home by Earl and Luella Snyder at the corner of Sibley and Jesse streets near downtown Hammond, the business moved to 5746 Hohman Avenue in 1940. In 1950, Elden V. LaHayne joined the firm, and on January 2, 1965, he and his wife Edith purchased the business, renaming it Snyder-LaHayne Funeral Home. Their son, Elden B. LaHayne, joined in 1970, and the name was changed to LaHayne Funeral Home in 1979. The family incorporated the business in 1981. In 1994, the LaHaynes acquired Dalton and Son Funeral Home (established in 1925) at the current Southeastern Avenue location, operating both sites until closing the Hohman Avenue facility in 2001. The business transitioned to David and Judy Ruzich in 2010, and in 2020, Ray and Rachelle White became the owners, continuing the legacy of dedicated service.
