The history of Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home is a testament to enduring family dedication. The first documented funeral business in Mechanicsburg was established in 1916 by Jacob T. Fullenwider and his nephew, John E. Fullenwider. Known then as an “Undertaking” business, it operated from a frame building on First Cross and Main Streets. A devastating fire in December 1929 destroyed that original location, but the family persevered. Over the following years, the business moved several times—first to the “old Dunway’s house,” then to the “old Burcham home” on East Main Street. In 1943, the Fullenwider Funeral Home was permanently established at its current location on the southeast corner of Church and South Streets.
After John E. Fullenwider passed away in 1955, his son, John Patton Fullenwider, took over the business. He faithfully continued the family tradition at the same location until his retirement in the fall of 1989. At that time, the business was purchased by Greg Park and Wilson J. Park of Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester. John Patton Fullenwider passed away in 1992, but his legacy of devoted service lives on. The Park family has committed to upholding the same concern, integrity, and personalized care that characterized the Fullenwider name for generations.
Today, Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home continues to serve the Mechanicsburg community with dignity and respect. The staff understands the importance of a meaningful farewell and works closely with families to create ceremonies that provide comfort and closure. Whether arranging a burial service, coordinating with veterans’ organizations, or helping personalize a tribute, the team brings years of experience and heartfelt compassion to every interaction. Although the facility is currently temporarily closed, the funeral home remains a cherished institution, ready to support families in their time of need with the same steadfast commitment that has defined it for over a century.
