Founded in 1890 by Sam Markiewicz, the business initially operated as a combination funeral home and furniture store on Main Street. In 1948, Sam’s son, Vic Sr., moved the firm to its current location at 108 East Illinois Street, where he managed the operation until his retirement in 1975. Sam’s grandson, Vic, then purchased the business and oversaw significant expansions and renovations in 1983 and 1992, ensuring the facility could meet the evolving needs of the families it served. In 2006, fourth-generation funeral director Matt Markiewicz took over from his father, Vic. Sadly, Victor R. Markiewicz passed away in May 2007 after a battle with cancer, but his legacy of dedicated service continues through Matt.
