The business traces its roots back to the fall of 1982, when Fred and Jolene Fredregill founded Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing, Iowa. The couple raised their three children—Emilie, Allison, and Ryan—while operating the family business. In 1992, Fred expanded by adding a small location in Collins. Their son, Ryan Fredregill, grew up immersed in the funeral industry and graduated from Colo-NESCO High School in 1999. He then attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, earning a degree in mortuary science in 2000. After working for Park Lawn Funeral Home in Kansas City for over two years, Ryan returned to Iowa in 2003 to assist his father with the family business. In the spring of 2009, Ryan opened Fredregill Family Funeral Home in Baxter, Iowa, and in March 2016, he purchased his father’s Zearing location. That same year, in July 2016, he opened Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Polk City, extending compassionate care to even more families.

Ryan Fredregill is a member of the National Funeral Director’s Association, the American Society of Embalmers, the Baxter Masonic Lodge, and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He attends the United Congregational Church of Christ in Baxter and is deeply committed to the communities he serves. His personal interests include spending time with his family, golfing, riding motorcycles, camping, and boating, but his greatest passion is helping families honor their loved ones in a meaningful way. Ryan believes that a funeral or memorial service—whether traditional or contemporary—is the first step in healing, and he and his team work closely with families to create personalized tributes that celebrate the unique individual who has passed. Options include choosing the place of celebration, day and time of service, musical selections, prayers, and even symbolic gestures such as releasing doves, butterflies, or balloons, or giving keepsake gifts of wildflower seeds or tree seedlings.
