About

Murdock Funeral Home, located at 1420 Warford Street in Perry, Iowa, is a family-owned and operated funeral home that has been serving the community for decades. Founded by Steve Murdock, the funeral home is built on a foundation of compassion, dedication, and over 40 years of experience in funeral service. Steve Murdock, a native of Lone Tree, Iowa, discovered his passion for funeral service early while working at a local funeral home. He pursued his dream by attending the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas, Texas, graduating in 1974. After college, he gained experience in Des Moines before relocating to Perry in 1978 with his wife, Joyce. Together, they purchased the Time on Funeral Home and later, in 1983, merged with Fouch Funeral Home. In January 1990, Steve acquired the business and renamed it Murdock Funeral Home, cementing his commitment to the Perry community.

Murdock Funeral Home offers a wide range of services designed to honor the lives of loved ones and support families during difficult times. These services include traditional funeral services, cremation, memorial ceremonies, and graveside services. The staff works closely with each family to tailor arrangements to reflect the unique life being honored, whether through a religious service, a simple cremation with a private gathering, or a personalized celebration of life. Additionally, the funeral home provides pre-need services, allowing individuals to plan ahead, document their wishes, and lock in current pricing, thereby easing the burden on their families. For immediate-need arrangements, the team handles logistics with urgency and compassion, often accommodating requests the same day.

Steve Murdock remains actively involved in the profession and community, holding memberships in the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, the Perry Elks Lodge #407, and the Otley Masonic Lodge #299. The Murdock family, including Steve and Joyce’s three grown daughters and six grandchildren, maintains a warm and comfortable atmosphere for families to gather. They pay close attention to every detail, ensuring that each family receives the funeral service they desire. The funeral home also maintains an active obituary page on its website and provides resources for grief support and flower delivery. With its deep roots in Perry and Dallas County, Murdock Funeral Home continues to be a trusted partner for families navigating loss, offering a local understanding of traditions, faith communities, and cemeteries that matter most to the families it serves.
