About
Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory, deeply rooted in Oskaloosa, Iowa, traces its lineage back to 1866 when J.B. McCurdy established J.B. McCurdy & Co. Furniture and Undertaking. The business evolved through generations: I.H. Garland, Howard Wilcox, and Fred Wilbur purchased it in 1913, and Art Garland joined his father in 1939. Calvin Van Arkel joined Art in 1960, leading to the name Garland-Van Arkel Funeral Chapel. David Langkamp came in 1978, and the chapel moved to its current location at 2116 North 3rd Street in 1980. In 1984, David became co-owner with Calvin, renaming the business Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. Calvin retired in 2001, and David and his wife Shawn took full ownership. Their son Andrew joined in 2009. In 2011, the funeral chapel opened Central Iowa Cremation Services, an on-site crematory, offering families the peace of mind that their loved one never leaves their care. In 2017, the name was changed to Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory to reflect the compassionate, family-centered nature of their services. Today, the chapel continues to serve Mahaska County and surrounding areas, including University Park, Keomah, Evans, Olivet, and others, with the same dedication to dignity and compassion that has defined it for over 150 years.
