Originally founded in 1865 as Wittich Brothers Undertaking and Furniture Store at 212 Cedar Street, the business expanded under George M. Wittich, who doubled the building size and renamed it Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home. In 1936, Thomas F. Beveridge and Floyd Downey purchased the funeral home, with Mr. Beveridge becoming sole owner in 1945. The business was acquired by D. Stacy Lewis in 1978, and formal plans to move to the current location at 2907 Mulberry Avenue began in May 1982. By June 1983, the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services was established at its present site. An addition in early 1996 brought the community room and the Life Transition Library, enhancing the facility's ability to serve families.
