Mittelstadt Funeral Home, located at 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, Iowa, is a pillar of compassionate care and community service. Now operating as the Mittelstadt Chapel of Schott Funeral Homes, this establishment boasts a rich history rooted in family dedication and professional excellence. The funeral home traces its origins to October 1, 1960, when Robert and Dotty Mittelstadt purchased the Anderson Funeral Home, which had been founded by Arnold Anderson, Sr. and later run by his son, Arnold, Jr. For thirty years, the Mittelstadts operated the business with a personal touch, until health concerns led them to sell to Bart Winter on May 1, 1990. Both Robert and Dotty continued to contribute to the home, with Dotty remaining active until her retirement in 2005. A modern facility was built at the current address and opened its doors on August 1, 2002, providing a welcoming setting for families. On May 1, 2018, Isaiah and Tasha Schott purchased the funeral home from Bart and Medara Winter. Isaiah, who had previously partnered with Brian Cataldo at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Home in Forest City, brought his experience and vision to Lake Mills. In 2020, the Schotts fully acquired the Forest City location and rebranded both facilities as Schott Funeral Homes, designating the Lake Mills location as the Mittelstadt Chapel.
