Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, located at 603 Second Street in Columbus Junction, Iowa, is a cherished funeral home with a rich history spanning over 50 years. Originally built between 1901 and 1903 by Mr. and Mrs. George Harrison, the house was a marvel of its time, featuring exquisite maple and birdseye maple woodwork, oval windows, and ornate carved flower motifs. The home was designed with running water supplied by a gravity-flow tank in the fourth-floor attic and included four marble sinks. In the 1950s, Victor and Grace Stacy began operating a funeral home in Columbus Junction, initially on Gamble Avenue. After Carl Stephens ran the funeral home for several years, the Stacys partnered with Warren and Connie Lewis in 1962, renaming the business to Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. During those early years, they not only provided funeral services but also served the community with ambulance service. The funeral home moved to its current Second Street location, and after Victor and Grace retired, a major expansion was undertaken, adding a chapel, casket selection room, and an apartment. Shortly thereafter, a fire broke out, damaging the office and requiring extensive restoration. The woodwork was carefully stripped, and new ceilings and walls were installed, preserving the historic character while modernizing the facility. In 1989, the Stacys' son, D. Stacy, purchased the funeral home, continuing the third generation of family service to the area. Today, Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home operates under the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services family, offering both burial and cremation services. The facility features tastefully decorated visitation rooms, a dignified chapel, and on-site parking with wheelchair accessibility.
