The business has a rich history dating back to 1940 when F.L. "Barney" Sharp moved from Sioux City, Iowa, and purchased a Victorian home in Carroll to establish Sharp Funeral Home. That original location was demolished in 1959, making way for the current Carroll facility. The Breda location was later built in 1966, providing a dedicated space for families in Carroll County and the surrounding areas. In 2010, Kyle Atkinson, who joined the firm in 2008, purchased the funeral homes. Sheppard Smith, a native of Algona, Iowa, joined in 2013, and together they own and operate both the Carroll and Breda locations.
