Originally established as Hammett and Groover Funeral Home, the business underwent several transformations before taking its current name. In the mid-1950s, Hudson Maddox purchased the funeral home and renamed it Maddox Funeral Home, operating at 118 Church Street until his retirement in 1973. The business was then sold to Joseph E. “Gene” Page and Hudson’s brother, Charles Maddox, becoming Maddox-Page Funeral Home. In 1986, the business was acquired by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary of Columbus, Georgia, and relocated to its current location at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road. The name officially changed to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in 1989. In 1995, the mortuary was acquired by an affiliate of Service Corporation International (SCI) and today is a proud member of the Dignity Memorial® network, a leading provider of funeral, cremation, and cemetery services.
