Langston Funeral Home, operating as Langston and Brown Funeral Service, has been a cornerstone of the Buena Vista and Marion County community for over five decades. Established in 1966 by Mrs. Charlie Jane Mathis Langston and her son, Mr. Charlie Edwards Matthews, the funeral home was originally known as Langston & Son Funeral Home. Mrs. Langston was a remarkable woman: an educator for 36 years and the first African American female to obtain a funeral director's license in Marion County. She passed away in 2006 at the age of 103, and Mr. Matthews, a licensed funeral director and entrepreneur, passed away in 2020. Their legacy of compassionate service continues through the family-run business, which changed its DBA name to Langston and Brown Funeral Service in 2011 but has remained at the same location at 227 4th Avenue since its founding.
