Originally operating out of a converted residence, the funeral home expanded by acquiring two homes on the corner of Tyler and Marion Streets—one became the funeral home, and the other served as Mr. Blount's family residence. An enclosed passageway connected the two buildings, creating Tampa's first 24-hour staffed funeral home. In 1952, Mr. Blount retired, selling the business to two key employees, Henry Hale and Jack Yent Sr. Three years later, they built Tampa's first conventional funeral home on Nebraska Avenue, which now houses administrative offices and training facilities. Over time, numerous funeral homes from Hillsborough and Pinellas counties joined the F.T. Blount family, including Curry & Son Funeral Home, founded by Mark Curry Jr. In late 2006, Terrace Oaks Chapel was added, and today four chapels proudly serve the Tampa area under the Blount & Curry name.
