A Lake Worth native, Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. After his internship, he and a business partner built two funeral homes in 1957—one in Delray Beach and one in Lantana. In 1964, they sold the Lantana location and opened a new funeral home on North Federal Highway in Boca Raton. By 1976, Robert and his wife Helen became the sole owners, expanding the facility multiple times to better serve the growing community. In 2014, the original location merged with Kraeer Funeral Home and now operates as Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center. The West Boca Raton location on Calle Comercio Drive, built in 1992 and opened on January 17, 1994, was Robert and Helen's second funeral home. Since Robert's passing in 2004, Helen has carried on his legacy with unwavering dedication.
