About

John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, located at 88 East Main Street in Meriden, Connecticut, has been a cornerstone of compassionate care for over 130 years. As a proud veteran-owned and family-operated business now in its fourth generation, the funeral home has earned an impeccable reputation for integrity, professionalism, and personalized service. With a perfect 4.9-star rating from 35 reviews, it stands as a trusted partner for families during their most difficult times.

The history of the firm dates back to the late 19th century when founder John J. Ferry worked as a liveryman, providing horse-drawn carriages for funerals and other events. In 1910, he built a large brick stable at 30 Pratt Street, which still adjoins the modern funeral home. Together with his sons, Thomas L. Ferry Sr. and William A. Ferry, he formed John J. Ferry & Sons. John J. Ferry died in 1918, but his sons carried on the legacy. In 1935, Thomas L. Ferry Sr. purchased the home of Dr. Harold L. Meeks at 88 East Main Street and built an addition, creating the nucleus of today's facility. The front was replaced with the present yellow brick structure in 1937. Today, Thomas L. Ferry III leads the firm alongside his sons Patrick L. Ferry and Daniel T. Ferry, continuing a tradition of excellence.

The funeral home offers a comprehensive range of services, including traditional funerals, memorial services, cremation, and burial. Specialized offerings include veteran services, grief support, and financial assistance. The facility features two spacious, wheelchair-accessible chapels that can be combined into one larger space, accommodating up to 200 guests. An Austin manual organ and professional organist are available. The professional staff includes licensed embalmers and funeral directors who work closely with families and clergy of all faiths, without distinction of race or creed.

John J. Ferry & Sons is recognized as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, and provides language assistance. The funeral home is also a member of the Order of the Golden Rule, an invitation-only professional association for funeral homes that demonstrate the highest standards of mortuary practice. With a commitment to transparency, the firm provides itemized accounting of charges in advance. Whether assisting with pre-planning, cremation, or traditional services, John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home continues to honor its founder's vision of dignified, respectful care for every family it serves.
