About
Grant Mortuary & Crematory - Craig, located at 621 Yampa Avenue in Craig, Colorado, has been a cornerstone of care and compassion for families in northwest Colorado for over a century. With a stellar 4.7-star rating from 46 reviews, this family-owned funeral home is deeply rooted in the community, serving Moffat, Routt, Rio Blanco, South Routt, and the Little Snake River Valley. As the only funeral home within a 50-mile radius, Grant Mortuary provides essential end-of-life services with a personal touch that comes from generations of local relationships.
The history of Grant Mortuary is a story of dedicated service. It began in 1919 when I.J. Robacker opened a furniture store and funeral home in Craig. After 35 years, he sold to John and Lorene Zobel, who renamed it Zobel Mortuary. Their sons, Bruce and William, took over in 1976, and Bruce became sole owner in 1977. In 1980, Owen Grant purchased the business, renaming it Grant Mortuary. Owen continues to work at the funeral home today, a testament to his enduring commitment. Recognizing the need in Meeker and Rio Blanco County, Owen opened a second location at 345 6th Street. In August 2014, Rick Allnutt and Susan Hughes purchased both locations, making Grant Mortuary part of the Allnutt family of funeral homes, which now belongs to the Dignity Memorial® network—the largest group of funeral, cremation, and cemetery service providers in North America.
Today, Grant Mortuary & Crematory - Craig offers a full range of services including traditional funerals, cremations, memorials, and burial services. The facility features an on-site chapel that seats 100 guests, a wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking lot, and free on-site parking. For cremation, the funeral home operates a private crematory on the premises, giving families peace of mind that their loved one never leaves their care. Families may even witness the cremation if desired. The team is experienced in serving diverse faiths, including Mormon, Christian, Lutheran, Greek Orthodox, and Catholic traditions, and they offer extended visitations and viewings for Hispanic and other families. Many families choose to hold receptions at the Center of Craig (formerly the First Christian Church), which is within walking distance.
The caring staff—longtime residents themselves—go above and beyond, offering to make arrangements in homes, providing rides to the funeral home, and being available 24/7. They offer prepayment plans with up to 10% savings, a 100% service guarantee, and lifetime flexibility on prepaid plans. Price lists for itemized services, burial merchandise, cremation merchandise, and packages are available online. Grant Mortuary is more than a funeral home; it is a family serving families, honoring the deep connections that define the Craig community.
