Consecrated by Bishop Robert Armstrong in 1929, the cemetery has become the final resting place for over 65,000 faithful departed. Spanning more than 70 acres of developed and undeveloped land, the grounds are distinguished by a central mausoleum designed in the traditional form of a Catholic church, reflecting the vision of Bishop Patrick Kean. The property also houses several specialty cemeteries, including the Russian Orthodox Cemetery, the Sacramento County Veterans Cemetery, and the Sacramento County Cemetery, underscoring its role as a community cornerstone.

In the summer of 2016, St. Mary Funeral Center opened its doors on the 65th Street and Fruitridge Road side of the cemetery, fulfilling the diocese’s commitment to comprehensive end-of-life care. This modern facility brings funeral, mortuary, cremation, and cemetery services together under one roof, offering families a seamless and compassionate experience. The center features a chapel for vigil and funeral Mass, a care center, and a reception room, allowing families to honor their loved ones without the need to travel between separate locations.
