Hillview Funeral Chapels

About

Hillview Funeral Chapels has been a cornerstone of compassionate funeral service in Newman, California, and the surrounding communities of Patterson and Gustine for over a century. Located at 1258 R Street in Newman, the chapel traces its origins back to 1910 when Walter Davis purchased the business from C.W. Shank, establishing the Davis Funeral Chapel. Initially operating from a building on the site that now houses the local post office, the chapel moved to the Knights of Pythias building in 1915 before settling into its permanent home on R Street in September 1926. This historic building has served as a steadfast landmark for nearly 100 years, offering a familiar and comforting setting for generations of families during times of loss.

Over the decades, the funeral home underwent several name changes reflecting changes in ownership while maintaining its commitment to service: it became Davis-Hansen Funeral Home in 1953, Evans-Krieger Funeral Chapel in 1969, and finally Hillview Funeral Chapel in 1985 when Mark Kuhn purchased the funeral homes in Patterson, Newman, and Gustine. Under the management of Tony J. Fraga, Hillview Funeral Chapels has been independently owned and operated, continuing a tradition of family-owned funeral service that has become increasingly rare in Stanislaus and Merced Counties.

Today, Hillview Funeral Chapels offers a comprehensive range of services to meet the diverse needs of the families they serve. These include traditional funeral services, cremation options, memorial markers, headstones, and monuments, as well as specialized care for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. The chapel provides flexible and personalized arrangements, ensuring that each family can honor their loved one in a meaningful and affordable way. The professional staff understands the importance of personalized attention and detail, taking pride in the level of care extended to every family.

The facilities are designed to be accessible to all, with wheelchair accessible entrances and parking, on-site parking, and a welcoming environment. Hillview Funeral Chapels also provides a wealth of resources to support families before, during, and after a loss, including pre-planning services, a grief library, a remembrance store, and local florist recommendations. The chapel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can be reached at (209) 862-3628 for the Newman and Gustine locations or (209) 892-6112 for the Patterson location.

With a deeply rooted history dating back to 1910, Hillview Funeral Chapels remains a trusted and compassionate presence, helping the community lean on them in their loneliest hours. Their commitment to respect, reverence, and personalized care has made them a pillar of support for families throughout the Westside region.
