Stricklin/Snively Mortuary, located at 1952 Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, California, is a distinguished funeral home with a rich history dating back to 1905. Founded as McFadyen Mortuary by Edgar and Kate McFadyen, the business was one of the few undertaking parlors in Long Beach at the time. Originally situated at 135 East 3rd Street, the mortuary relocated to its current address in 1919, then known as American Avenue. To accommodate the distance from the city center, the McFadyens operated their own livery stable, offering carriage transportation for funeral processions. After Edgar McFadyen's passing in 1928, his wife continued the business until it was sold to Bill and Louise Sheelar in 1948. In 1966, the Stricklin family acquired the mortuary, bringing decades of experience. A significant turning point came in 1979 when the Long Beach Redevelopment Project forced Patterson & Snively Mortuary to relocate. Wilbur Snively, owner of that firm, joined forces with the Stricklin family, and in 1980, after a $1 million renovation, Stricklin/Snively Mortuary was officially formed. The renovation expanded the chapel, added five spacious drawing rooms, indoor and outdoor garden areas, and increased parking capacity. In 1983, the mortuary enhanced its services by building the Long Beach Crematory, an on-site cremation facility that ensures families peace of mind, as their loved one never leaves the care of the trusted team.
