About

Stricklin/Snively Mortuary, located at 1952 Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, California, is a distinguished funeral home with a rich history dating back to 1905. Founded as McFadyen Mortuary by Edgar and Kate McFadyen, the business was one of the few undertaking parlors in Long Beach at the time. Originally situated at 135 East 3rd Street, the mortuary relocated to its current address in 1919, then known as American Avenue. To accommodate the distance from the city center, the McFadyens operated their own livery stable, offering carriage transportation for funeral processions. After Edgar McFadyen's passing in 1928, his wife continued the business until it was sold to Bill and Louise Sheelar in 1948. In 1966, the Stricklin family acquired the mortuary, bringing decades of experience. A significant turning point came in 1979 when the Long Beach Redevelopment Project forced Patterson & Snively Mortuary to relocate. Wilbur Snively, owner of that firm, joined forces with the Stricklin family, and in 1980, after a $1 million renovation, Stricklin/Snively Mortuary was officially formed. The renovation expanded the chapel, added five spacious drawing rooms, indoor and outdoor garden areas, and increased parking capacity. In 1983, the mortuary enhanced its services by building the Long Beach Crematory, an on-site cremation facility that ensures families peace of mind, as their loved one never leaves the care of the trusted team.

The mortuary offers a wide range of funeral and cremation services, specializing in personalized celebrations of life that honor each individual's passions and personality. From traditional funerals to unique memorials—such as a putting green for a golf enthusiast or a garden-themed service for a plant lover—the creative staff goes the extra mile to craft meaningful tributes. Cremation options are extensive, including simple cremation, cremation with a funeral, and scattering services, with the added benefit of a private, on-site crematory operated by licensed, Cana-certified professionals. The facility also features an on-site chapel, wheelchair accessibility, free parking, and a multilingual team fluent in English, Spanish, and Khmer to serve the diverse Long Beach community. As a member of the Dignity Memorial network, Stricklin/Snively Mortuary provides compassionate care backed by a 100% service guarantee and 24/7 availability. The team is deeply committed to the local community, offering pre-planning services, transparent pricing, and coordination with professional caterers for receptions. With over a century of service, the mortuary continues a tradition of honesty, quality, and personal concern, pledging to uphold these values for generations to come.
