Originally founded by Francis G. Rose and his wife Dorothy, the business began as a small mortuary in the Niles area, with the family living in an apartment attached to the parlor. The property at 1940 Peralta Boulevard, once an apricot orchard owned by William “Bill” Furtado, was purchased by Francis, who oversaw the construction of the funeral home in 1958, completed by Fred Diaz. The doors opened in December of that year, and Francis personally handled every aspect of the business, from removals and embalming to meeting with families and conducting services. Throughout the years, the chapel underwent a single remodel around 1990, extending the front of the building facing Peralta Boulevard. In 1987, the family acquired the former Lindsey Fremont Memorial Chapel, renaming it Fremont Memorial Chapel, which was further remodeled to include a spacious reception room with stained-glass windows and hardwood floors in 2005.
