About
McInnis Mortuary is a family-owned funeral home deeply rooted in the communities of west Alabama and east central Mississippi, with over four decades of dedicated service. Founded in February 1978 by Mary R. McInnis and the late James E. McInnis, the funeral home originally opened its doors in Eutaw, Alabama, at 267 Demopolis Highway (now also referred to as Demopolis Road). From the outset, the McInnis family committed themselves to providing compassionate, personalized care, treating every family they serve as their own. James served as a licensed mortician in both Alabama and Mississippi, while Mary, a licensed funeral director, managed the daily operations. Their son, Eric J. McInnis, grew up in the business and later became a co-owner after his father’s passing in July 2008. Mary and Eric continue to uphold the family legacy, emphasizing dignity, respect, and community service.
Over the years, McInnis Mortuary has expanded its reach. In December 1990, a second location opened at 110 Marshall Street in Livingston, Alabama, allowing the family to better serve families in that area. Both facilities have undergone extensive renovations to create welcoming, comfortable environments for those gathering to honor loved ones. The funeral home offers a comprehensive range of services, from traditional funerals to contemporary cremation options. They also provide specialized services for veterans, including assistance with headstones and burial flags, reflecting a deep appreciation for those who served. Additional resources include grief support (with a year-long daily email program), guidance on making arrangements, funeral etiquette, social security benefits, and answers to frequently asked questions.
Accessibility is a priority: both locations feature wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking, ensuring that all guests can participate fully in services. On-site parking and financial assistance are available to ease the burden during difficult times. The staff at McInnis Mortuary take pride in their reputation for high-quality, professional service delivered with warmth and personal attention. They recognize that each family is unique, so they collaborate closely with loved ones to create meaningful tributes that celebrate individual lives. Testimonials from families they have served underscore their commitment to excellence and compassionate care.
Community involvement is central to the McInnis family’s mission. They actively participate in local activities in west Alabama and east central Mississippi. The funeral home also operates the Gospel Sunrise Prayer & Request Line, a resource for spiritual support. With a motto that says “Your loved ones become our loved ones and we don’t ever forget to remember,” McInnis Mortuary continues to honor the trust placed in them by providing enduring support that extends well beyond the day of service. Whether at the Eutaw or Livingston location, families can expect a dignified, heartfelt experience guided by experienced professionals who treat every family with the utmost respect and care.
